Power, Love, and a Sound Mind.

Nearly three years ago I returned home from Argentina due to Covid-19. I was in Argentina as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

When I got home I came across the fantastic scripture in 2 Timothy 1:7-8. The scripture is part of a letter Paul is writing to Timothy and he says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord…” In a time of uncertainty, this scripture brought me a lot of peace, and a lot of faith. In my study of this reference I found a quote from Gordon B. Hinckley. Regarding this scripture he said, “I wish that every member of this church would put those words where he might see them every morning as he begins his day. They would give us the courage to speak up, they would give us the faith to try, they would strengthen our conviction of the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that more miracles would happen over the earth.” These words are powerful. They inspired me then, and then inspire me now.

In life it can be easy to be sacred. There are unexpected discomforts, failures, a lot of uncertainty, etc. but God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

In the mountains it can be easy to be scared. There are avalanches, big winds, animals, crashes, etc. but God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

In racing it can be easy to be scared. There are mechanicals, pileups, underperformances, etc. but God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Fear Not. It’s not from God. God wants us to have the spirit of power, love, and of sound mind.

Fear doesn’t breed success.

So go. Act. And do so with faith. With power. With love. With a sound mind.
